3 stars is assuming it works perfectly based on issues with the parts that came in the box. Quality control doesn’t seem to be a thing that happens at “Mr Cartool”. Probably wouldn’t have given this one a chance based on past experience, but I need an electronic unit with this style of mounting and there’s no other options. The lighter-socket power adapter has the wrong size of plug to fit the socket on the unit, luckily my plan is to hard-wire it into the vehicle and the cord for that purpose does fit correctly. I’ve already returned another unit from this manufacturer (the 2 dial inclinometer, which has the dials mislabeled but otherwise seems to work).Update: Removed one star for another quality issue since the unit wouldn’t stay set in any particular position. The configuration makes the retaining nut on the ball mount hard to align, and everything being plastic makes it not stay tight in hot weather. Without enough grip at the ball, the display unit is too heavy to stay located if you drive on any surface rougher than a well maintained parking lot.

I really wanted to like this product. It offered a number of useful features in a moderate sized form factor case. It uses GPS technology for location, speed and time and has a functional screen layout. However, all of these enhancing factors are mitigated by the fact that the display is too dim to see in daylight! The display is wonderful in low light settings, but is difficult to see in high ambient light conditions, especially when wearing sunglasses.Since I got the unit for off-highway driving, the lack display readability in high ambient light conditions is a deal breaker.Adding to the frustration is the user manual. As supplied, it’s tiny and difficult to read. The pdf versions from Amazon are easier to read, but very sparse on information. The unit’s setting functions aren’t intuitive and the buttons don’t offer much tactile feedback, making it frustratingly difficult to set up for first use. There’s also no “factory reset” command set published. This would have been helpful to clear settings that were inadvertently entered. It would have been easier to erase everything and start over than to try to step through a menu and undo errant settings.Good try, Mr. Cartool, but this product isn’t ready for prime time. I’m returning it for a refund.

Works but too dim

I liked all the features and when I installed it, looked great in the evening and night time. The next day I went out to go off-roading and behold could barely see the display! The daytime backlight is so dim I had to block sunlight with my hand to be able to see anything. Install was fairly easy, but overall if I can’t see the display, what’s the use!? The speed is also not correct and there is no way of calibrating it to the correct speed while not moving. Also the compass is governed by GPS while you are moving only, so if you are in a tunnel system you are SOL. The 1st pic is the brightest in my garage; 2nd is dimmed mode for night use; 3rd is on the brightest while in direct sunlight. I’m disappointed with the daytime brightness, but will keep the unit for night time adventures.

Great value for the price. It would be nice if it came with instructions for every feature. Still trying to figure them all out. But, it works great

For $50 my expectations weren’t real high. I am looking for an inclinometer for my motorcycle. This one will fit on my custom fairing where the voltmeter resides. The GPS position tracking helps with speedometer accuracy. The compass provided by GPS tracking is no more accurate than the one in my Silverado, only using 8 points.

The media could not be loaded. This unit when turned on display was nice and bright. Information displayed is useful, notably the the GPS time and coordinates.1/4 20 screw mount on the back of the unit with adequate surface mount bracket.Cigarette lighter power plug and hard wire plug are included. All components were packaged well and instructions included in the box. Instructions are also available as a PDF download on listing.I really want to like this unit but am unable to since THIS unit does not stay on.A small visor can be fashioned and attached to mitigate visibility in bright sun light.GPS is dual channel which provides time and current coordinates. Yes, you will need to be moving for the GPS to return speed and direction easily mitigated by moving.Shutting off and resetting however, there is nothing I can do but try another unit. So if you get this please make sure to test it right away.As for durability…well I need to get a working unit first to test that.
