I rebuilt the dash of my 2005 Tahoe with this kit. The soldering iron is cheap, but good. I have used it on several projects and it keeps going. The Dash works just like it did when it was new, perhaps better. I had had trouble with the speedometer after it was out of warranty. I took it to the dealer and they quoted me an outrageous price, after the ‘class action suite’ amount was taken off it was still absurd. I finally got pulled over last year cause i was going too fast – no ticket – but I knew I had to do something about this. I read up on this repair, ordered the kit, replaced all of the motors and it is awesome. I did assemble it without the clear cover so I could adjust the needles if needed. I only had to work on the speedometer and the oil gauge a little, they were off a little. I ran down an old country road so I could stop, kill the engine, then adjust as needed. It took a few miles, but it is spot-on now. If you can solder small items like dash lights, you can do this.02/24/19-updateEverything is going well with the dash rebuild. I have kept the GPS running when I drive the vehicle, and the speedo is still on the money. This is a good purchase, for sure.

I replaced speedo and temp steppers. I have many years of learn-as-you-go mechanic skills but no experience with circuit boards. Watched a few youtube vids and practiced solder removal on an old circuit board (got one out of an obsolete phone charger. Just about anything electronic has a board in it). Highly recommend any novice get a feel for the soldering tools before putting the heat to a delicate and expensive piece of your vehicle. The entire job is easy and does not take long even going at a very slow pace as I did. There are a few different ways to make sure the gauges read accurately after reassembly. I went with the method of setting the instrument panel in place without the clear plastic face. Run the vehicle and let it get up to operating temp and drive to check the speedo. If all gauges don’t go back to zero when shut off then just move the needle by hand (always make the last movement counter-clockwise to insure the stepper motor is fully in the off position). When all is good you can put the plastic face on without having to remove the cluster again. Last note: Some people replace all the steppers at once. I opted to use the two I needed and save the others for spares because removal of the instrument cluster is so simple.Overall happy with the product. Would have given 5 stars if the solding tool was a little better. It did the job but IMO got just barely hot enough to melt solder.

Excellent stepper motors. For those unsure, be sure you’ve got decent soldering and desoldering skills before attempting , or you could very much ruin a cluster. If possible, find something else to work on first to test soldering and desoldering until you’ve got it down. The light bulb replacements are slightly more difficult in that two pads are used to solder and make the connection and the other two are to keep it from rocking. I found it best to throw a little extra solder on all four before reattaching. And to reattach, you don’t have to worry about positive or negative, they work both ways. But what you do need to worry about is making sure you don’t try to solder it to the non powered pads (the ones for stability). Solder one power “leg” or side, by placing the light bulb and housing in place where it needs to go. Press the soldering iron to the side of the solder that’s now underneath that side. And then push down gentle while heating. Remove the heat and keep holding down until it hardens. Then go to the other power side. When both sides are down, repeat the process again on all four sides. And then, if needed, add just a little more solder to any sides that need it or all sides just to ensure everything is stuck completely.Overall a great kit! Worked perfectly to replace an 05 Chevy Silverado 1500 2wd. Would definitely buy again.

Came with everything needed for repair. Got motors all soldered in and one didn’t work. Swapped it with one of the other ones and it worked fine. So had one bad stepper in kit- not complaining. Just ordered set of 2 on Amazon and have a spare now. All gauges were out on 2011 Silverado, now all working great.

The kit was perfect for the job. Now my 18 year-old Silverado has 100% gauge function. No more guessing on the fuel amount or using Google maps to monitor my speed. Now I know the alternator is charging, too. Great product! Make sure you know how to solder/remove solder before you buy this kit!!!

All inclusive kit that provides everything you need to repair your instrument cluster! Worked perfectly. Even includes solder! Also, and very important, this kit includes the motors that are recommended to perform the fix – not the cheap imported aftermarket ones.

Was kinda hesitant to do this stepper motor replacement for my speedometer not working correctly. But doing this repair was a breeze, kit was complete with everything needed and saved me hundred’s of dollars.

Did some research and found these when my speedometer quit working in my Dinali. Watched a YouTube video and it took about 20 minutes to repair. Speedometer is accurate now. If you’re handy with tools I highly recommend.
