I love the extra-large size of this ashtray – the one that came with my new car is much too low as it sits in the cup holder which makes it hard to use. The holder part (not including the top, which screws on) is 6 3/4 inches tall, and with the top in place it is 7 1/4 inches tall. Fits perfectly in the drink holder and makes hitting the ashtray much easier, and I don’t have to take my eyes off the road hunting for that small factory one.As to the “Self-Extinguishing” function – I decided to give it a rigorous testing, inside out home before taking it to the car. First I filled the bottom of the ashtray with 2 1/2 inches of cigarette butts, and screwed the lid into place – then I used the ashtray normally, crushing out the cigarettes in the top lid of the ashtray before letting the butt and embers fall through the hole into the base. No smoldering, worked just fine. Then I tried just dropping the lit cigarette butt through the hole into the base, without crushing it out. That does start the butts in the base of the ashtray to smoldering – and smoke was coming out of the hole in the top. When I opened the top – the entire base was full of smoke. There is an easy solution if you want to drop fully lit cigarettes through the hole in the top – prior to use, add about an inch and a half to two inches of water into the base – in that way the cigarettes are immediately extinguished upon hitting the water. This is a good very good product, but would be even better if I had a snap down top which would stop air from entering the ashtray unit. Also, the label that comes stuck onto the ashtray does not easily peel off – so, if I were to buy one again, I would soak the label with lighter fluid, prior to trying to peel it off the ashtray.

This type of smokeless ash tray has been around most of my life, 1944-2020. Vehicles have changed over the years but this ash tray has weathered the test of time. I debated between this larger version and the smaller version that has the window attachment to slip between the glass and the arm rest to hold the ash tray. I may eventually also get a couple of those.

This fits in my 3rd, smaller cup holder in my truck and has been much more convenient. It holds plenty of cigarette butts, and if you miss the hole it’s easy to dump them into the bottom without making a mess. The top twists to a minimal locking position, but it’s enough to not let the smoke escape which is a great feature.

It’s really kinda cheap meaning, once you drop it….it’s broke. For the price and the RoadPro brand, I expected more.RoadPro used to make good stuff….I guess that’s history now.

I took my old ashtray and flung that hunk of junk in the trash bin. As soon as I saw this ashtray I was in heaven. Large wide mouth opening..hoo-rah. Large opening for your cigarette butts..hog heaven y’all. This is one serious ash tray. Throw that Rinky Dink ashtray out the window.. this one is all you need.
