I almost got stranded hundreds of miles from home because the metal portion of my Honda CR-V key (2008) fell out of the failing (original) plastic shell. I hadn’t replaced it, and used it in poor condition, for some time due to the cost of a new OEM key from Honda. Well, somehow I stumbled upon this fix: A $10 piece of plastic. Wish I’d known sooner! Would’ve saved a near-stranding and figurative heart attack. The best part (and the improvement over Honda’s poorly designed original) is the small plastic sleeve that the actual metal key slips into/through. It is the reason for the strength/security of this thing. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it seemed difficult to get the clam-shell to snap shut completely all the way around. But once the small screw is in place (I reused my original screw not the one that comes with the product) it seemed secure. It’s been very secure since. If your key is failing just get this and stop worrying about losing your key somewhere.

The key for my 2007 Honda CRV broke off in the ignition last week. Yikes! The “guts” of the remote were fine (ie the transponder). My Honda guy said he’d cut me a new key/replace the remote but at the cost of nearly $200 so I ordered this car remote shell. Within 15 minutes (with necessary and appreciated help from some very good YouTube videos from other users). I was able to attach my old key, transfer my old transponder, and assemble the new remote fairly easily. Since I hadn’t changed the battery in my old transponder EVER, I also bought the needed battery and replaced it (again, with help from YouTube) before transferring the old transponder it to the new remote shell. It all works great including the transponder/door-lock functions. No shims were needed — the key fit perfectly and tightly. The correct (and tiny) Phillips-head screwdriver was included and absolutely required. I highly recommend this product. Thank you!

Very Important!: The small sleeve that slips over the key blade also must slide into the back piece of the key fob (it has grooves) before remaining assembly steps. Both the sleeve and the back piece of key fob (solid with no button holes) have small grooves on each side so that they fit firmly together (see pic). The sleeve will only slide into the back piece one way. The larger of the two screw holes in the sleeve will be facing upward. If you can’t get the sleeve to slide into the back piece with they key blade inside, try sliding the sleeve into the back piece with the key blade removed, then slide the key blade into the installed sleeve. You may need to use a screw driver blade to help move the key blade past the key ring area.I think some of the poor reviews (broken fobs) are people who tried to force the pieces together thinking that they fit together like a factory OEM fob – they don’t.Once assembled correctly it’s a solid product! 🙂

Save your old screw, this one is the wrong size and thread for a Honda key. Getting the security chip out of the old key fob took some time, it was glued in there hard. Screw also has locktite on it, not easy to remove w/o stripping it. If you break all the plastic out from under the screw head, you can put pliers on the screw to break it loose. Fob fits well.

Step #1 – Read the Amazon Review from “Amazon Customer” dated November 1, 2022.There is a trick to the assembly, but this reviewer lays it all out for you.If I had not read the reviews on Amazon before buying, and knew there was some sort of trick to getting it to assemble right, I would have been upset thinking it trash since the proper assembly isn’t obvious and the instructions are next to useless. Clean fit, no gaps. Read his review / instructions before giving up.

My original 2007 Honda Fit key broke and was in need of a new one. Went to Honda dealer and they told me it was going to be $200 for just the outer case, or $400 for complete new key! I walked out of there fast and went to Amazon and found this cover. Cover arrived the next day. I took the sensor and “guts” out of old key( had to brake the plastic around the metal key) and fit it inside the new case, everything fit perfectly! This plastic case cost under $10 and it saved me lots of money. I’m very happy with the results. Highly recommend!

I snapped my key about a year ago while I was in the police academy. The dealer wanted to charge me like $250 to get a new key and program it, but rookie pay helped me to decide on some gorilla tape instead – and it worked fine for a few months.A coworker told me about these fob replacements on Amazon so I decided to go ahead and get it.The instructions are easy and this thing is a money and life saver! There’s a review from November of 2022 that really does help with installing the key into the fob, so I HIGHLY recommend reading it!The hardest part of this install was getting the original screw out of my original Honda key fob.The screwdriver this kit comes with was unable to turn the stock screw, but needle nose pliers did the trick.I FINALLY have an intact key again and I would recommend this product 1,000,000 times.

This worked great for my 2008 Civic key. Just make sure that you assemble it correctly by sliding the black piece that holds the actual key into the grooves at the bottom & also use your old screw (the new screw is too long). My old screw was stuck & I had to break the old plastic case off to get better access to the screw & was finally able to remove it by spraying it with WD40 & using pliers.
